Course 14: The African Growth & Opportunities Act (AGOA)
Understanding the Trade Agreement & Regulation
AGOA product eligibility implies that a product, when produced in an AGOA beneficiary country, may enter the United States free of import duty. Products must comply with the relevant local processing (Rules of Origin) as well as customs requirements. AGOA preferences currently apply to approximately 7,000 tariff lines (at the HS8-digit level). This includes the approximately 5,000 tariff lines currently covered by the United States Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) plus a further 1,800 tariff line items added by the AGOA legislation.
Many suppliers in Africa struggle with getting their goods exported under this very generous trade deal. In this course learners will be taking an in depth approach to learning about AGOA and how to utilize the Act to grow their export business. At the end of this course learners will understand US trade regulations, government policies and strategies for U.S. market entry under AGOA.
